NANPENG Island
NANPENG island is located in Dongping Town, Yangjiang, Guangdong Province, about 12 nautical miles away from the mainland, covering an area of about 1.24 square kilometers. It is composed of two hills, which are like the wings of Mirs on the side, so it is named NANPENG island. Looking down, it looks like an 8-shaped shape in the east-west direction. The mountain to the East is not very difficult. There are two or three lawns on the mountain, and there are over a thousand cattle and sheep on the island, which have been contracted by people.
Topography and vegetation
The vegetation on the mountain is mainly composed of short pine trees and right trees, so you must wear climbing shoes or sports shoes and trousers to avoid scratches. The west side of the mountain is steep, and there is water source on the mountain, which is natural mineral water. There are many caves excavated by the Japanese army on the mountain. But most of them have been blocked.
The highest point of the island is the 191.5-meter navigation lighthouse. The beach, about 150 meters south of the wharf, is an ideal place to camp. Here is the intersection of 8 characters. The beach runs across the island and faces the sea from north to south. On one side, the wind is strong and the waves are high, but on the other side, the wind is calm and the waves are calm. In about one meter shoal, there are a large number of wild sea urchins and sea cucumbers. The sea water is clear and transparent. You can catch sea urchins and sea cucumbers by hand.
Historical experience
In the Qing Dynasty, Zhang baozi, a pirate from a poor family, wandered around the coastal islands of Guangdong Province, robbing the rich and helping the poor, and set up the red gang to fight against the Qing army. After the fall of the Qing Dynasty, a large number of gold and silver jewelry were secretly buried in the islands, and NANPENG island was also one of the islands it occupied. Later, NANPENG island was occupied by the Japanese army to form an island besieging the mainland. At that time, the Japanese army found that there were abundant tungsten and gold deposits on the island (tungsten was the necessary metal for making weapons), so they forced the local mainland residents to mine on the island, build houses and fortresses, and dig many trenches on the mountains to resist and defend. After liberation, the island was garrisoned by the people's Liberation Army. Later, fearing that someone might dominate the island and illegally exploit tungsten, the mines and solid fortresses were bombed. During its boom, 12000 people lived on the island. There used to be schools, cinemas, houses and other buildings on the island, but they were abandoned more than a few decades ago and still have those decaying walls.
Today, NANPENG island tourism office is newly set up on the island, with wind power station, which can provide electricity for tourists. There is also a new dock for fishing boats on the island, which can berth about 20 ~ 30 ton fishing boats.
