Xi'an Railway Vocational and technical college is a higher vocational college approved by Shaanxi Provincial People's government and registered by the Ministry of education.

The three campuses of the college cover an area of 170000 square meters, with a building area of 180000 square meters. At present, there are 656 teaching staff and more than 10000 full-time students. Every year, more than 2000 on-the-job trainees are trained for various units of the railway system, and more than 1500 college and secondary school graduates are trained.

At present, the college has 5 departments, including transportation, electronic information, mechanical and electrical engineering, electrical engineering, civil engineering and basic engineering, with 40 majors.

Electrified railway technology, urban rail transit control and urban rail transit operation management are new specialties in combination with Xi'an's 11th Five Year Plan; railway rolling stock, railway communication signal and railway engineering technology are characteristic specialties for western construction; numerical control technology, power system relay protection and automation, power supply and consumption technology, mechatronics and communication technology Logistics management, engineering cost, automotive electronics and information technology are new specialties combined with economic construction and new technology.

In order to better highlight the characteristics of vocational education and cultivate students' vocational skills, the college takes the lead in implementing the "multi certificate" system in vocational education institutions in Shaanxi Province. The college is one of the 100 pilot institutions of vocational qualification certificate system in China. It has set up the training base for Qingniao software engineers in Peking University, the National Computer Rank Examination Center, the National Public English rank examination center, the professional skill appraisal station for special types of work in the railway industry, the professional skill appraisal station in Shaanxi Province and the technician skill appraisal station. Northwest University of technology and Southwest Jiaotong University School of network education have been set up. All these have laid the foundation for students to accept different levels of learning and obtain various certificates.

The college actively draws lessons from advanced educational thoughts, teaching contents and methods. In recent years, many countries' delegation from Germany, the United States, the United Kingdom and Japan have visited the University and signed cooperation agreements with relevant foreign higher vocational and technical colleges to create conditions for teacher training and students to study abroad. The college has established a long-term cooperative relationship with more than 70 railway units and more than 130 large enterprises in China, forming a good mechanism for school enterprise interaction, and graduates are widely praised by employers. In recent years, the employment rate of graduates has been maintained at more than 95%.

The college is the executive director unit of China Vocational Education Association, the deputy director unit of rail transit Committee of China Railway Vocational Education Association, the director unit of Shaanxi Vocational and Technical Education Research Association, the Secretary General unit of national railway workers higher education research association, the National Railway adult academic calendar education and the business training base of railway system cadres. It has been awarded "national advanced unit of Vocational and technical education" by five national ministries and commissions, "national advanced unit of Railway Vocational and technical education" by the Ministry of railways, and "civilized campus" in Shaanxi Province.

Since its establishment for half a century, the college has trained more than 50000 professionals for the country and made due contributions to the country's construction. The college attaches great importance to the employment of graduates, with employment guidance centers and full-time personnel in each department responsible for the specific work of graduates' employment. We have established a complete service system of employment guidance, employment recommendation and tracking service. The college fully relies on the advantages of railway education and railway industry to accept graduates, and actively contacts and develops employment channels for graduates. In recent years, the employment rate of our college is among the best compared with similar colleges. The employment rate of graduates in 2006 is 97.2%; the employment rate of graduates in 2007 is 96.4%; the demand of graduates in 2008 is in short supply. At present, some railway units have begun to book graduates in 2009.

With the formation of urban industrial chain and the continuous construction of electrified railway and urban subway, the construction of Xi'an Metro Line 2 has started.
