Hechi University is a full-time regular undergraduate school established with the approval of the Ministry of education in April 2003. It implements the school running system of "autonomous region and Hechi City jointly build, with autonomous region as the main body". The school is located in Yizhou District, Hechi City, Guangxi, which is a famous historical and cultural city in Northwest Guangxi with beautiful scenery and convenient transportation, a national excellent tourist city and the hometown of Zhuang singer Liu Sanjie.

Founded in the autumn of 1951, the school has gone through the educational programs of Guangxi Yishan normal school, Guangxi Yishan normal school, Guangxi Hechi Yishan normal school, Liuzhou normal college and Hechi normal college. In April 2003, the Ministry of Education approved the establishment of Hechi University, which is a fully funded institution at the level of Finance in the autonomous region. After upgrading, the university has gone through three stages: arduous climbing, tenacious leaping and rapid development. It has gradually developed from a normal university into a multi-disciplinary and applied undergraduate university including undergraduate education, higher vocational and technical education, adult higher education and international student education. In December 2011, the University passed the Ministry of education undergraduate teaching qualification assessment. In 2013, the University was approved to build a new master's degree awarding unit in Guangxi.
