Harbin Institute of technology, subordinate to the Ministry of industry and information technology, is a national key university jointly built by the Ministry of industry and information technology, the Ministry of education and Heilongjiang Province. It is one of the first batch of universities to enter the national "211 Project" and "985 Project". In 1920, the Middle East Railway Administration founded Harbin Sino Russian Industrial school, the predecessor of Harbin Institute of technology, to train engineering and technical personnel. The school became the cradle of industrial and technical personnel in modern China. After the founding of the people's Republic of China, Harbin Institute of technology has become one of the two universities learning from the former Soviet Union's higher education mode.
