Hefei University is an undergraduate college which is born in reform, growing in opening up and developing in innovation. Its predecessor, Hefei United University, was founded in 1980. Under the initiative of Mr. Yang Chengzong, the founder of radiochemistry in New China, it was jointly built by seven universities including China University of science and technology. The school running mode of "appropriate fees, non exclusive distribution, setting up specialties according to social needs, and socialization of logistics" was implemented. It has played an exploratory role in China's higher education reform and is known as China's higher education reform "Xiaogang Village". At present, the university is a pilot work unit of bachelor's degree awarding unit, which is a national "talent training project serving the special needs of the country". It is one of the first batch of 61 universities to undertake the "excellent engineer education and training plan". Hefei University is a multi-disciplinary full-time regular undergraduate university with engineering, economics and management as the main subjects and literature, science, education and art as well. Our school has 920 staff, including 744 full-time teachers, 63 professors and 231 associate professors. The proportion of full-time teachers with master's degree or above is 75.5%, including 100 doctors. There are three excellent teachers in the school, and one won the national "May 1st" labor medal. Among the foreign teachers, 2 won China's "National Friendship Award", 10 won Anhui province's "Huangshan Friendship Award", and 1 was selected into the national "thousand talents program supporting talent introduction project". The school has two campuses, phase I and phase II of nanyanhu campus and the campus of Continuing Education College, covering an area of about 1128 mu. The university has always adhered to the orientation of "local, application-oriented and international", actively promoted various education and teaching reforms, constantly explored the scientific development path of local universities, formed an application-oriented talent training system with international background and its own characteristics, played an important leading and exemplary role, and was known as the "Vanguard" of the first array of Newly-built Undergraduate Colleges in China. The employment rate of students has been maintained at more than 96%, and has been rated as the pacesetter unit of college graduates' employment work in the province for four consecutive years. Since 2009, our students have participated in various competitions such as "Challenge Cup" and won 474 provincial or above awards, including 212 national awards and 34 national first-class or above awards. The school's existing majors basically cover Hefei's leading industries such as electronic information, equipment manufacturing, chemical industry, modern logistics, household appliances, and strategic emerging industries such as new energy, new materials, energy conservation and environmental protection. The school actively participates in the technological innovation of enterprises and serves the local development. In 2011, Hefei Environmental Engineering Research Institute (Hefei innovation platform of Hefei Wuhu Bengbu independent innovation comprehensive experimental zone) was jointly built by our university and Hefei thermal power group, etc., and the German experience and technology were used for reference to help Hefei thermal power group solve the technical problem of sludge blending combustion. Anhui Heda environmental testing Co., Ltd. was established by our university and Anhui Zhongnan Institute of environmental protection technology. It has been recognized as the first batch of pilot enterprises of equity and dividend incentive in Hefei city and the "innovative enterprise" in Hefei City in 2012. Our school and Hefei planning and Design Institute and other consortia have been selected as the bid winner of "Hefei Bantang and Tangchi international hot spring resort conceptual planning and urban design", and edited "Anhui Tourism Talent Construction Plan". Through the connection between our school and friendly school, Hefei has formed friendly cities with ausnabluc of Germany and Ruishan of South Korea. The school also made full use of the platform of "Sino German environmental technology and knowledge transformation center" to actively participate in the research of Hefei municipal waste classification and treatment.
