Jiangxi Agricultural University is a high-level university with agriculture as its advantage, biotechnology as its feature, and multi-disciplinary coordinated development. The school dates back to Jiangxi Industrial school founded in 1905 and renamed Jiangxi higher agricultural school in 1908. Undergraduate education began in National Chung Cheng University in 1940, renamed Nanchang University in 1949, and established Jiangxi Agricultural University in 1952. Jiangxi Communist Labor University was founded in 1958 and renamed Jiangxi Communist Labor University in 1968. In 1969, Jiangxi Agricultural University and Jiangxi Communist Labor University merged. In November 1980, it was renamed Jiangxi Agricultural University.

The school education system is complete. Disciplines cover agriculture, science, engineering, economics, management, literature, law, education, philosophy, art and other 10 categories. There are 17 colleges with more than 26000 full-time students (including independent colleges). There are 3 first-class doctoral programs, 19 first-class master programs and 68 undergraduate programs. Relying on the advantages of running a school, the university has gradually built a science and technology innovation system with distinctive characteristics.
