Southern Medical University

Southern Medical University, formerly known as the First Military Medical University of the Chinese people's Liberation Army, was founded in 1951. It was designated as a national key university in 1979. In August 2004, it was transferred to Guangdong Province and renamed Southern Medical University. The university is one of the first batch of universities jointly built by "ministries and commissions" in China and the only one in Guangdong Province. It is also the "key construction university" of high-level universities in Guangdong Province.

School scale: there are two campuses, namely the headquarters and Shunde campuses, covering an area of 1.68 million square meters and a building area of 845000 square meters. They are open to students from 31 provinces, autonomous regions, municipalities directly under the central government, Hong Kong and Macao. At present, there are 17 colleges with 30 undergraduate majors, including 7 national characteristic majors, 9 Guangdong provincial characteristic majors and 6 Guangdong famous brand majors. There are about 20000 full-time students and more than 4300 graduate students. The doctoral enrollment scale ranks second in independent medical colleges in China.

Discipline construction: the disciplines cover 7 university disciplines, including medicine, science, engineering, literature, management, law and economics. At present, there are 10 first-class disciplines authorized for doctor's degree and 6 mobile stations for postdoctoral. Among them, the number of first-class disciplines authorized for doctor's degree in medicine ranks first in Guangdong Province and second in medical colleges and universities in China. It has five national key and cultivation disciplines, and clinical medicine, pharmacology and toxicology, biology and biochemistry have entered the top 1% disciplines of ESI in the world.

Personnel training: the university is one of the 13 national institutions of higher learning to pilot 8-year medical education, and the only independent medical university to offer 8-year medical education. It is one of the first batch of Pilot Universities of "excellent doctor education and training" in China, and has established friendly cooperative relations with 51 universities and scientific research institutions in 20 countries and regions. Undergraduate students have won the first prize in the "Challenge Cup" science and technology competition and the gold medal in the entrepreneurship competition for 8 consecutive years.

Faculty: the school has 3 academicians, 1 double employed academician, 3 national teaching teams, 3 national famous teachers, 10 candidates from the "Thousand Talents Program" of the Organization Department of the Central Committee, 8 candidates from the "Yangtze River scholars Award Program" of the Ministry of education, 12 winners from the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars, 10 national candidates from the "million talents project" of the Ministry of science and technology, and 10 young and middle-aged science and technology innovation leaders from the Ministry of science and technology There are 1 military talent, 1 "young top-notch talent" of the national special support plan, 4 "excellent youth" of the state, 4 "south Guangdong top 100 talents" of Guangdong Province, 4 "leading talents" of Guangdong Province, 19 candidates of Guangdong special support plan, and 20 candidates of Guangdong Pearl River scholar post plan.

Scientific research: the university has one national key laboratory and one national clinical medicine research center. It is also a national innovative talent training demonstration base and a national international science and technology cooperation base. Since 2011, it has undertaken 2790 scientific research projects and received 1.155 billion yuan of funding. As the first completion unit, the university has won 17 awards above the second prize of national science and technology, and 42 first prizes of provincial and ministerial science and technology as the first completion unit. Since 2000, five scientific research achievements of our university have been selected into the annual top ten science and technology news released by the state for seven times.

Medical strength: at present, the school has 11 affiliated hospitals, with more than 10000 beds. It has 16 national key clinical specialties, 6 key disciplines and 4 key specialties of the State Administration of traditional Chinese medicine, 7 key medical disciplines of Guangdong Province during the 12th Five Year Plan period, 54 key clinical specialties of Guangdong Province and 6 medical quality control centers of Guangdong Province. It has established Guangdong Institute of Nephrology and Guangdong Academy of orthopedics. Huiqiao building of Nanfang Hospital is the first and largest foreign-related medical center in China. It was awarded the honorary title of "model medical Huiqiao Department" by the Central Military Commission, and was praised by Comrade Jiang Zemin's autograph.

Industrial Development: since the 1980s, the university has created a national university industry university research integration precedent. Based on the independent research and development of "Sanjiu Weitai", "Zhengtian pill", "infinity oral liquid", "Niaoduqing" and other products, the university has successively established Shenzhen Nanfang pharmaceutical factory (the predecessor of Sanjiu group), Nanfang Lijinji nutrition and Health Products Co., Ltd. and Guangzhou Kangchen Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd Division and other internationally renowned pharmaceutical enterprises. We have developed the world's first SARS antigen detection kit, the first domestic "X-knife", national class I new drug B ultrasound cardiac contrast agent, thalassemia diagnostic kit and other high-end scientific research products, and successfully realized industrialization.
