Guangxi Institute of foreign languages is located in Nanning, the capital of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, the central city of Beibu Gulf Economic Zone and the permanent site of China ASEAN Expo. It is a full-time regular undergraduate school (Second Edition) approved by the Ministry of education. Its predecessor is Guangxi Oriental vocational college of foreign languages, which was established in 2004; In April 2011, with the approval of the Ministry of education, Guangxi Dongfang Vocational College of foreign languages was upgraded to an undergraduate university and renamed as Guangxi Institute of foreign languages.

The school covers an area of more than 2315 mu, with an area of more than 330000 square meters. There are more than 14000 full-time students, including 282 foreign students. It has an advanced digital library of more than 25000 square meters, 87 professional laboratories, 65 practice teaching bases, including 25 foreign practice teaching bases, with a collection of 1.2 million books. In January 2015, the airport campus construction office was established. The airport campus of Guangxi Institute of foreign languages is located in Fusui Airport Economic Zone, which is known as "the back garden of the capital". The school construction plan includes teaching building, experimental building, library, gymnasium, canteen, student dormitory, etc., which will build a modern, ecological, multi-functional new university.

At present, there are 12 languages including Thai, Vietnamese, Cambodian, Myanmar, Indonesia, Laos, English, French, Spanish, Korean, Japanese and Chinese, and 65 undergraduate and junior college majors, covering five disciplines of literature, economics, management, art and engineering. It is the foreign language major with the largest number of foreign language majors and the largest number of languages in Guangxi University of science and technology.
