Liaoyang vocational and technical college, formerly known as Liaoyang normal school in Liaodong Province, was founded in 1949. In 1996, it merged with Liaoyang Teachers College and changed its name to Liaoyang teachers college. With the approval of Liaoning Provincial People's Government in September 1999, Liaoyang normal college, Liaoyang Branch of Liaoning Economic Management Cadre College, Liaoyang Branch of Liaoning Radio and Television University, Liaoyang Branch of Liaoning industry and sports college, and Liaoyang commercial worker technical secondary school were merged. In October 2000, they were renamed as Liaoyang Vocational and technical college.

At present, the college has 7510 students at all levels, 271 classes and 5402 full-time students, including 4811 vocational students. There are 10 departments and departments, offering two teaching levels of college and undergraduate, a total of 35 higher vocational and normal majors and 12 professional directions. Among them, the major of automobile detection and maintenance technology is the national shortage talent major, and the major of environmental monitoring and governance technology, computer network technology and computer art design is the teaching reform demonstration major of Liaoning Province.

The college has a strong faculty. At present, there are 558 teaching staff and 424 full-time teachers, including 32 professors, 156 associate professors, 145 lecturers, 91 with junior or lower professional titles, and 2 foreign teachers. There are 89 staff with graduate degree or above, including 3 doctoral students. In the past ten years, the college has planned to send professional teachers to famous universities for further study and "further study" in the production line, and cultivated a large number of high-quality "double qualified" backbone teachers. At present, there are 160 "double qualified" teachers.

The college covers an area of more than 350000 square meters, with a construction area of nearly 10 square meters and fixed assets of nearly 300 million yuan. The college has complete teaching and service facilities and advanced equipment. It has 7 teaching buildings, 1 comprehensive training building, 1 gymnasium, 7 student apartments, 3 student restaurants, as well as standardized plastic track and field playground, basketball court, volleyball court, tennis court and other teaching infrastructure. There are campus network, multimedia classroom, voice room and computer teaching network in the campus. Among them, there are more than 1000 advanced teaching computers, more than 1800 seats in multimedia classroom and 155 seats in voice room. In order to provide practice places for students, the school has 45 advanced water treatment laboratories, chemical analysis Experimental Center, automobile maintenance, mechanical processing, electronic technology, computer network and other laboratories, and has also opened up more than 104 practice training bases. The library has a collection of more than 244400 books, more than 400 Chinese and foreign language publications and 10000 e-books.

It has successively won the honorary titles of "civilized unit" and "civilized school" awarded by the provincial Party committee and the provincial government, "civilized campus" awarded by the provincial university working committee and the Provincial Department of education, "advanced unit of Vocational Education in the whole province" awarded by the Provincial Department of Education, "advanced collective", "advanced unit of the best construction project" and "advanced unit of high skilled personnel training" awarded by the Liaoyang Municipal Party committee and the municipal government.
