Hunan University

Hunan University is located in Changsha, a famous historical and cultural city in China. Its campus is located on the Bank of Xiangjiang River and at the foot of Yuelu Mountain. It enjoys the reputation of "Millennium University, century famous university". The university is a national key comprehensive university directly under the Ministry of education, a national key construction University of "211 Project" and "985 Project", and a national "world-class university construction university". The current Secretary of the Party committee is Professor Deng Wei, and the president is Professor Duan Xianzhong.

The school originated from Yuelu Academy which was founded in 976 A.D. in Kaibao ninth year of song Taizu. Through the changes of song, yuan, Ming and Qing Dynasties, it has always maintained the continuity of culture and education. In 1903, it was transformed into Hunan University, named Hunan University in 1926, and became one of more than ten national universities of the Ministry of education of the national government in 1937. After the founding of the people's Republic of China, Li Da, a representative of the first National Congress of the Communist Party of China and an educator, was the first president of Hunan University in New China. Comrade Mao Zedong wrote the name of the University himself. In 1953, the national departments were adjusted. The school was renamed as Central South Institute of civil engineering and architecture and Hunan Institute of technology. In 1959, the original name of Hunan University was restored. Since 1963, it has been subordinate to the Ministry of mechanical industry of the people's Republic of China. In 1978, it was listed as a national key university. In 1998, it was adjusted to a university directly under the Ministry of education. In 2000, Hunan University and Hunan University of Finance and economics merged to form a new Hunan University.

In the long course of running the school, the school has inherited and carried forward the fine tradition of "preaching and helping the people, being patriotic and pragmatic, being practical and practical, and being inclusive". It has accumulated the spirit of Huda with the motto of "seeking truth from facts, being daring to be the first" and the school spirit of "erudition, sagacity, diligence and knowledge". It has formed the talent training characteristics of "solid foundation, active thinking, strong adaptability and high comprehensive quality". Since the founding of new China, the university has trained a large number of senior professionals for the country and society. Many graduates have grown into famous experts, scholars, entrepreneurs and excellent party and government management talents. Among the teachers and students, 35 have been elected as members of the academic department and academicians of the "two academies". The school has more than 36000 full-time students, including more than 20000 undergraduates and more than 15000 postgraduates. The initial employment rate of graduates has been maintained at more than 95%, ranking first in Hunan Universities, and ranking first in Universities under the Ministry.

The university has a graduate school and 23 colleges, with 11 disciplines including philosophy, economics, law, education, literature, history, science, engineering, management, medicine and art. It has 27 first-class disciplines authorized by doctor's degree, 1 doctoral professional degree, 36 first-class disciplines authorized by master's degree, 20 master's professional degree, 2 first-class disciplines authorized by national key disciplines, 14 second-class disciplines authorized by national key disciplines, and 25 mobile post doctoral research stations. At present, seven disciplines of the University have entered the top 1% of the ESI, among which engineering has ranked among the top 1% of the ESI in the world in January 2018. Seven disciplines were selected as national defense characteristic disciplines, and chemical and mechanical engineering disciplines were selected as world-class disciplines of the Ministry of education.

At present, the school has nearly 4000 staff, including more than 1950 full-time teachers, more than 1400 professors and associate professors, 7 academicians, 38 "thousand talents plan", 20 "ten thousand talents plan" scholars, 18 "Changjiang Scholars" distinguished professors, lecture professors and young scholars, 20 winners of the National Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars, and 6 members of the academic degree committee of the State Council. The university has a National Engineering (Chemistry) basic course teaching base, a National Science (Chemistry) basic science research and teaching talent training base, a national demonstration software college teaching base, and a national college students' cultural quality education base. It has seven national teaching teams, six bilingual teaching demonstration courses, six talent training mode innovation experimental zones, and four national experimental teaching demonstration zones There are five "excellence program" national pilot majors, four national college students' off campus practice bases, and one national virtual simulation experiment teaching center. In the past five years, the university has won two second prizes of national teaching achievements, 10 national quality video open courses and 21 national quality resource sharing courses.

The university has 2 national key laboratories, 2 national engineering technology research centers, 2 national international joint research centers, 1 national international science and technology cooperation base, 1 National Engineering Laboratory, 1 national defense key discipline laboratory of the State Administration of science, technology and industry for national defense, 5 key laboratories of the Ministry of Education, 4 engineering technology research centers of the Ministry of education, and 3 discipline innovation centers of colleges and universities of the Ministry of education Introduction base. There are 20 key laboratories, 2 engineering technology research centers and 17 provincial social science research bases in Hunan Province. The University participated in the establishment of three national "2011 collaborative innovation centers".

The university has established a national university science and Technology Park and a "two mountains and one lake" innovation and entrepreneurship base, established a production, teaching and research base in Lugu of Changsha high tech Zone, established 56 high-level production, teaching and research platforms of universities, local enterprises and 32 enterprises

Provinces (cities, autonomous regions) and thousands of enterprises have established cooperative relations. Changsha National Supercomputing Center is the third National Supercomputing Center set up by the state. It has provided high-performance computing, cloud computing and big data processing services for nearly hundreds of user units such as universities, scientific research institutions, governments, enterprises and institutions.

At present, the university has established academic cooperation and exchange relations with more than 160 universities and scientific research institutions in the world. Each year, the University employs more than 300 long-term and short-term foreign experts. Throughout the year, the university recruits all kinds of international students from more than 90 countries and regions, as well as more than 1000 students from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan, and establishes an overseas practice base for students. In recent years, nearly 2000 students have gone to overseas cooperative colleges for exchange study or joint training. The university has cooperated with Hunan University in South Korea, Regina University in Canada and Colorado State University in the United States to establish the Confucius Institute, which has become the largest number of Confucius Institutes in Hunan Province.

The campus covers an area of 1.53196 million square meters, and the school building area is 1.04593 million square meters. It has a collection of more than 6.9 million books, including 128 Chinese and foreign language databases. The whole network supports the next generation Internet IPv6. The 10 Gigabit backbone ground wired and wireless network has covered all teaching buildings, office buildings and student apartments. There are more than 40000 campus network networking terminals, and the Internet outlet bandwidth is 7.2g.
