Jinan University

Jinan University is China's first overseas Chinese University founded by the state. It has the largest number of overseas students in China. It is a key comprehensive university of the national "211 Project" and directly under the leadership of the overseas Chinese Affairs Office of the State Council. The word "Jinan" comes from the chapter of Shangshu Yugong: "it spread to the sea in the East, was spread to the quicksand in the west, was spread to the south of Shuonan, and was taught all over the world." That is to say, facing Southeast Asia and spreading Chinese culture all over the world. The predecessor of the school is Jinan school, which was founded by the Qing government in Nanjing in 1906. Later, he moved to Shanghai and changed his name to national Jinan University in 1927. During the Anti Japanese War, he moved to Jianyang, Fujian. He moved back to Shanghai in 1946. In August 1949, it was merged in Fudan, Jiaotong and other universities. It was rebuilt in Guangzhou in 1958.

Jinan University, known as "the highest institution of overseas Chinese", abides by the motto of "faithfulness and respect" and pays attention to cultivating talents with the excellent traditional moral culture of the Chinese nation. The school actively implements the school running policy of "facing overseas, facing Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan". Since its establishment, the school has trained more than 200000 talents from 142 countries on five continents and from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan regions, which can be called "peach and plum all over the world".

In June 1996, Jinan University became a national key university facing the 21st century. In 2007, in the undergraduate teaching evaluation organized by the Ministry of education, the University was rated as excellent. In 2008, the state officially launched the third phase of "211 Project", including finance and capital market, industrial economy and regional development, comparative literature and art and overseas Chinese literature, overseas Chinese and Sino foreign relations, water ecology and algae biological resources, biotechnology and bioengineering drugs, nonlinear mechanical problems of major engineering structures, modernization of traditional Chinese medicine and integration of Chinese and Western medicine Five projects have been identified as the national key discipline construction projects.

The university has 25 colleges, 59 departments, 178 research institutions and 77 laboratories, 89 undergraduate majors; 15 first-class doctoral degree awarding points, 4 second-class doctoral degree awarding points; 38 first-class master's degree awarding points, 5 second-class master's degree awarding points; and it is the recruitment and training of senior management personnel in Business Administration It is an institution of master's degree (EMBA), master of Business Administration (MBA), master of accounting (MPAcc), master of law (JM), master of International Education in Chinese (MTCSOL), master of clinical medicine, master of engineering, master of Public Administration (MPA); it is also a school of national pilot high-level sports teams. There are 1 National Engineering Center, 13 provincial and ministerial research centers and 13 key laboratories. The school has five campuses in Guangzhou, Shenzhen and Zhuhai, and is preparing to build a new campus in Guangzhou. The campus covers a total area of 2.3955 million square meters, with a building area of 1.1082 million square meters and a dormitory area of 283400 square meters. The school library has a collection of 3.366 million books. The university has actively carried out academic and educational exchanges with foreign countries. It has signed bilateral agreements or established academic exchange relations with more than 238 institutions of higher learning and cultural institutions on five continents, covering 43 countries on five continents, Hong Kong and Macao. The school has its own offices in Hong Kong and Macao, and an education foundation in Hong Kong.

In the history of Jinan University, there were Ma Yinchu, Zheng Zhenduo, Liang Shiqiu, Wang Yanan, Zhou Gucheng, Qian Zhongshu, ZHOU Jianren, Xia Yan, Xu Deheng, Hu Yuzhi, Yan Jici, Chu Tunan, Huang Binhong, Pan Tianshou and many other famous scholars. At present, the school has a strong faculty of 1918 full-time teachers, including 2 academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, 6 academicians of the Chinese Academy of engineering, 476 doctoral supervisors, 502 professors and 690 associate professors.

As of April 2014, there were 46750 students of various types, including 10471 graduate students (including 1214 doctoral students, 7977 master's students, 1280 on-the-job master's degree graduate students) and 20718 full-time undergraduates. There are 11532 overseas Chinese, Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan and foreign students. The school has a strong style of study and a galaxy of talents.
