Perennial small herbs, all light green, soft and juicy, glabrous. Stems recumbent, rooting on nodes. The leaves are opposite, broadly ovoid, 5-20 mm long and 8-18 mm wide. The leaves at the top of the stem are nearly round, 2.5-3.5 cm long and 2-3.5 cm wide, with rounded obtuse teeth on the margin, inward curved and petioles. Cyme terminal, inflorescence with leafy bracts, stem 5-20 cm high; flowers yellowish green or yellowish, diameter about 2 mm; single perianth, calyx tube cup-shaped, 4-lobed, lobes oval, apex blunt, medial concave; stamen 4, opposite to sepals, shorter than calyx; pistil 2-carpel, style very short, ovary combined with calyx tube. Capsule deeply 2-lobed, obliquely 2-beaked, variable in size, apex with hook like tip. Seeds numerous, round ovate, brownish red. The flowering period is from March to April. The fruit period is from May to June.
It is often found in the stone gap beside the stream or the bare rock under the forest on the north slope. It is distributed in the middle and east of China,
