[plant morphology] golden ear
Perennial herb, 50-100cm high, covered with white hairs. Stem erect, slightly hard, grooved. The leaves of the lower part of the stem are large, ovate oblong, up to 15 cm long and 6 cm wide, with irregular serrated edges; the leaves of the upper part of the stem are small, the smaller the upper part, lanceolate, almost entire. Capitate inflorescence, single at the tip of stem or branch, pendulous, about 10-16 mm in diameter; involucre oblate, outer bract long lanceolate, inner bract membranous, elliptic lanceolate; all tubular flowers, yellow, outer several layers of female flowers, central bisexual flowers. Achene slender, without corolla. It blooms in autumn.
Born on hillside and wasteland. It is distributed in Sichuan, Guizhou, Hunan, Fujian and Northeast China.

[medicinal material] it is a dry whole grass, with thin and long stems, silky hairs on the whole body, especially in the tender part, grayish green to dark brown. The leaves are mostly shrunk and broken, oval oblong, grayish green to brownish green. The stem base is tufted with fine roots, about 5-10 cm long, dark brown. Inflorescence withered, sometimes yellow with head. It is green and astringent.
