Shrubs, up to 2 m tall, young branches pubescent. Leaves opposite, ovate, elliptic ovate or elliptic lanceolate, 5-8 cm long, apex acute or acuminate, base cuneate, margin sparsely serrate, green glossy, sparsely white hairs on dorsal vein; petiole short or nearly absent. Flowers several, axillary or terminal on short lateral branches; sepals 2, oblong; corolla rose red, 5-lobed, 1.5 cm in diameter, tubular from lower to middle, upper trumpet shaped, base side inflated; stamens 4, 2-strong; ovary lower, 3-locular, style elongated. Achene with 1 seed, apically with inflated persistent sepals. The flowering period is from June to July.
Growing in the hillside jungle. It is distributed in Sichuan, Hubei, Shaanxi and other places.
