Perennial aquatic herbs. Rhizome slender, transverse. The stem is weak, much branched, about 2-3 mm in diameter, and the internodes are about 1-3 cm long. The leaves are all submerged, thin, round, ovoid or ovate lanceolate, 2-6 cm long and 1-2.5 cm wide, apex obtuse, base cordate, amplexicaul, with 7-15 veins, of which 3-5 are prominent; stipules are hyaline, 5-20 mm long, and later ruptured into fibrous and detached. Pedicels in axils, spikes 1.5-2.5 cm long. The fruit is obovate, about 2.5-3 mm long and 2-2.3 mm in diameter, with three inconspicuous ridges on the back and a short beak on the top.
In freshwater lake basins and less mobile rivers. Distributed in Liaoning, Jilin, Xinjiang, Inner Mongolia and other places.
