[plant morphology] Trollius violaceus

Perennial herbs. Rhizome short, nodular, with many branched roots. The stem is erect or inclined, with edges and white powder in the ditch. Leaf blade rhomboid ovate, 3-5 cm long and 2-3.5 cm wide, apex acuminate, base cuneate, decurrent, entire, with long yellow hairs on both sides. Flowers terminal and axillary, flower bundles arranged into a head, bracts or bracteoles; calyx tubular, 5-lobed, membranous, edge purple; corolla high footed butterfly, lobes 5, blue; stamens inserted on corolla tube. Capsule dehiscent.

Born in the shade by the road. It is distributed in Sichuan, Guizhou, Yunnan and Tibet.

The root of Stylosanthes glauca (also known as blue snowflake) is also used for medicine with the same effect.

[chemical composition] a reddish brown needle like crystal is isolated from the root, which is a quinone containing phenolic group. It can relax the spasm of smooth muscle and inhibit the growth of Staphylococcus aureus, octococcus and Bacillus subtilis in vitro.

Take the root of the steamer to extract the active ingredients, add 90% ethanol to saturation, and each ml contains about 10 ml of the extracted crystal. Take 2-3ml in case of pain, mixed with warm boiled water, no more than 3-4 times a day. The root of steamer can also be finely cut and soaked in 75% alcohol for 7 days, taking 5-10 ml of soaking solution each time, but the effect is slightly poor. 184 patients with stomach, intestines and biliary tract diseases, including biliary ascariasis, gastritis, gastric ulcer, intestinal ascariasis, biliary postoperative syndrome and pancreatitis, were observed for pain relief.
