[collection] in autumn, the seedlings, fibrous roots and thin rhizomes were removed, and the skin was soaked in water for 6-7 days. Then the skin was removed and boiled thoroughly in the pot, or an appropriate amount of honey (0.25 Jin of honey per catty) was mixed in. When the water was dry, the skin was taken out to dry in the sun or on the Kang. Niuziqi, produced in Sichuan and other places, is harvested in spring or autumn. After cutting off the stems, seedlings, fibrous roots and thin parts, it is dried in the sun.

[medicinal material] the dry rhizome is irregular cone-shaped, about 1.5-4 cm long and 1-3 cm in diameter. The surface is yellowish brown to translucent amber, and a few are black brown. There are fine longitudinal wrinkles and protruding branch root residues, and occasionally slub pattern. The material is hard, not easy to break, the section is yellow white, uneven and granular. It has a special smell and tastes bitter. It is better to be big, full, bright, without slub and thick skin.

It is mainly produced in Yunnan.

Niuziqi, produced in Sichuan Province, is irregular, round or cone-shaped, thin and small, with thin rhizomes at both ends. Its surface is brownish yellow or yellowish white, rough, with fine wrinkles and nodules, and nodular raised fibrous root marks.

[pharmacological action] nuziqi decoction has anti-inflammatory effect on rats.
