Annual erect herb, 20-40 cm high. Terminal leaflets ovate rhombic, both leaflets obliquely ovate, apex mucronate, margin entire or subentire. Raceme axillary, long petiolate; usually with cushion glands between flowers; calyx campanulate, light green, calyx teeth lanceolate, upper 2 calyx teeth often connate; petals extend greatly beyond calyx; stamens 2 bundles. The pods are 7-15 cm long and the seeds are of different colors. The flowering period is from July to August. The fruit ripens in September.
It is cultivated in all provinces of China.
