[plant morphology] 1
Herbs perennial, up to 70 cm tall. Thick fibrous roots and strong aroma. Rhizome thick short, light green yellow, with strong fragrance; stem green or purple, pubescent. The leaves are heart-shaped, 7-9 cm long and 6-8 cm wide, apex short pointed, margin microwavy toothed, base slightly auricular; cauline leaves are opposite, broadly ovate, gradually ascending, long ovate, apex acuminate; petioles are wide, nearly sessile to the top. Cyme terminal, florets white or light red; calyx not obvious, after flowering into more than 10 pieces of thin linear lobes, villous; corolla tube apex 5-lobed; stamen 3; ovary lower, green, longitudinal groove. Achene flat, 3-veined anterior, 1-veined posterior. The flowering period is April.
Born in the ditch or forest edge, like wet and thick soil. Distributed in Shaanxi, Henan, Hubei, Sichuan, Guizhou, Yunnan, Tibet, Guangxi and other places.
② Valeriana broadleaf
Perennial herbs, 0.6-1 m high. Thick fibrous roots and strong aroma. The rhizome is short, with slender stolon; the aboveground stem is green, with longitudinal ribs, pubescent or nearly glabrous, and the hairs at nodes are dense. Leaves opposite, pinnately divided, 7-15 cm long, basal leaves with long stalks, stem leaves nearly sessile; lobes lanceolate to ovate lanceolate, apex long acuminate, base cuneate, margin sparsely coarsely serrate, both sides with pubescence, especially on veins. Panicles terminal; bracts linear lanceolate: flowers small, white or reddish, 1-3 mm in diameter; calyx 5-15; corolla tube thin, lobes 5; stamens 3; ovary inferior. Achene flat, persistent calyx lobes developed, feathery. The flowering period is June.
Born in the forest, wasteland to the sun or forest, ditch side. It is distributed from northeast to East and southwest China.
[collection] from September to October, the stems and leaves, fibrous roots and sediment were removed and dried in the sun.
[medicinal material] dry rhizome nodular, round or oblate, slightly curved, unbranched, 3-5 cm long, 0.7-1.3 cm in diameter, brown or tan. On the surface, there are dense circular protrusions, irregular, and many fibrous root marks on the bottom. The residue of stem and leaf can be seen in the flat section of Lutou. The quality is solid and the section is yellowish brown. It has valerian like aroma. It is better to be strong, solid and yellow.

[chemical constituents] the roots and rhizomes of Valeriana officinalis contain 1,2-diketones, which are hydrolyzed by alkali or acid to give isovaleric acid and hexanoic acid, and also contain linarin isovalerate and valerian cyclic malonylate. The roots and rhizomes of Valeriana officinalis from India contain acetoxy Valeriana Sanan. It is produced in Pakistan and contains dihydrovalerate.
The volatile oil in the root of Valeriana officinalis is 8%, and the components are valerianol, valerianol acetate, valerianol diacetate, l-pinene, terpineol, dipentene, borneol and valerianol.
[pharmacological action] the rhizome of Valeriana officinalis is similar to Valeriana officinalis. Please refer to "Valeriana officinalis".
