(Guizhou herbal medicine)

Another name: huoshaojian and Tuhuanglian (Guizhou folk medicine).

[plant morphology] 1. Spiraea farinae

Deciduous shrub, up to 1.5 m high. Branchlets tender or pubescent. Leaves alternate, ovate to ovate long elliptic, 3-8 cm long, apex pointed, base cuneate, margin notched double serrated, pale or slightly gray below, veins often pubescent; petiole 1-3 mm long. Flowers pale red or dark pink, sometimes white, 4-6 mm in diam., arranged in compound corymbs; sepals 5; petals 5, ovate to rounded; stamens longer than petals. Follicles glabrous. The flowering period is from June to July.

It is cultivated in China.

② Spiraea glabra, also known as fine leaf rice sieve flower.

The morphology is similar to that of the upper species, but higher. Leaves ovate oblong to oblong lanceolate, 6-11 cm long, with sharp double serrated margin, pubescence at the beginning, and then smooth. The flowers are light red to dark red.

It grows on hillsides, fields and under forests. It is distributed from central to eastern China.
