[source] it is the bark of Paulownia or Paulownia tomentosa.
[plant morphology] 1. Paulownia (compendium), also known as Baitong (Lu Ji's Poetry), Yitong (Tao Hongjing), Huangtong (Ben Cao Tu Jing), baihuatong (Chen Zhu's Tongpu), Huatong (pinhui Jingyao).
Deciduous trees, up to 15 meters high. Bark grayish brown, smooth; branchlets stout, brown, smooth. The leaves are ovate or oblong ovate, 10-15 cm long, heart-shaped at the base, apex pointed or acuminate, entire, with short stellate hairs on the top, immediately smooth, dense gray yellow stellate hairs on the bottom, smooth veins; the petiole is 6-12 cm long, hairy. Inflorescence panicle; flower large, 10 cm long; calyx ovate bell shaped, densely covered with stellate villi, 5-lobed, tube immediately smooth, lobes thick and slightly pointed at the top, with persistent Tricholoma; corolla white, with purple spots on the inside, tube 7 cm long, 4 cm in diameter, stellate hairs on the outside, lobes almost square, upper lip narrower, lower lip wider, with gnawing teeth or concave head at the end ; stamens 4, 2 strong, concealed in corolla tube, without staminodes; ovary 2-locular, style slender, incurved. Capsule essence, oblong, 7 cm long. Seeds numerous, flat and winged. The flowering period is from February to March. The fruit period is from August to September.
Most of them are cultivated in Shandong, Zhejiang, Fujian, Taiwan, Hunan, Yunnan, Guizhou, Guangxi, Guangdong and other places.

Leaves entire or 3-5-lobed. Flowers outside lavender, hairy, white inside, with purple stripes. Capsule apex acute, ca. 2. 3 cm long.
It is distributed in Northeast, East, central and southwest China.
The tender root or root bark (Paulownia root), wood part (Paulownia), leaf (Paulownia leaf), fruit (Paulownia fruit) and flower (Paulownia flower) of the above two plants are also used for medicine. Please refer to the special section for details.
[chemical constituents] the bark of Paulownia tomentosa contains 0.3% syringin.
