Shrub, 3-6M high. The stem is cylindrical, the branches are very dense, the young branches are nearly quadrangular, glabrous. Leaves opposite, elliptic or elliptic oblong, thinly obovate, 2-4.5 cm long, 10-15 mm wide, apex acute, base cuneate, papery; petiole short; stipules small, caducous. Panicle terminal, 7-15 cm long or longer; flowers very fragrant, green or rose, 8-10 mm in diameter; calyx 2-2.5 mm long, 4-lobed; petals 4, broadly ovate, 3-5 mm long, base cordate, with short claws; stamens usually 8, protruding, anthers oblong to suborbicular; style slightly longer than stamens, stigma subulate. Capsule globose, 5-7 mm in diameter; many seeds. The flowering period is from May to August.
It is distributed in the south of China. It is often planted in Guangdong, Guangxi, Fujian and Taiwan.
