Evergreen climbing vines, 2-7 m high. The young branches are light yellow, densely covered with rust yellow lenticels, the tender branches, inflorescences and leaf backs are covered with short hairs, and the tendrils are 2 opposite or 1. Single leaf alternate, ovoid, oblong or heart-shaped, 5-9 cm long and 2.5-5 cm wide, semileathery, front split, or concave head, entire, base round or slightly concave or auricle shaped; petiole 22-40 mm long, both ends inflated; stipules acicular, early off, bald. Inflorescence racemose, terminal or axillary; calyx simple 5-lobed, triangular, surface short hairy; petals 5-piece, white, free; stamens 10, 3, stout, anthers 2-locular, longitudinal, T-shaped; pistil 1, covered with very short hairy, style beaked. The surface of the pod has fine reticulate grain, which cracks when ripe. Seeds black, oblate. The flowering period is from September to October. The fruiting period is from January to February next year (Guangxi).
It grows on the edge of ditch, valley, riverside, under sparse forest or shrub. It is distributed in Guangdong, Guangxi, Fujian, Taiwan, Zhejiang, Hubei, Hunan, Jiangxi, Guizhou, etc.
