It is warm in nature and pungent in taste; it is poisonous.

[function indications] dispel wind and phlegm, calm convulsions, detoxify and disperse pain. It is used to treat phlegm stagnation, mouth and eye deviation, language astringency, phlegm headache, partial headache, throat obstruction and sore throat, tetanus in apoplexy, and external treatment of lung fatigue, phlegm core and snake bite.

[plant morphology] perennial herb. The leaves are basal, 1-2-year-old and 3-4-year-old; halberd shaped, 15-35 cm long and 7-30 cm wide, apex acuminate, base sagittate; petiole hypertrophy, semicircular, base expanded into sheath. Inflorescence stalk from tuber, cylindrical, inside slightly flat, green, with purple longitudinal spots; spathe apex acuminate, lower tubular; panicle inflorescence about 14cm long, male flowers in the upper, female flowers in the lower, the distance between the two is about 2.5cm; appendage cylindrical, purple, does not extend out of spathe. Berry red. The flowering period is from June to July and the fruiting period is from August to September.

It grows under the forest or in the valley. It is mainly produced in Henan, Gansu and Hubei.
