Evergreen trees, more than 10 meters high, young branches spreading or drooping, branchlets thin, very dense, nearly square, or cylindrical, diameter about 1.3 mm. Leaves scaly, closely attached to branches, often with wax powder, alternate opposite, 1-2.5 mm long, apex acute or pointed; glands round, at the base of leaf back; spiny impeller, obliquely spreading, 4-8 mm long. Cones ovoid or subglobose, 9-14 mm long, blue black or black after ripening, with one seed inside. The seeds are oblate or broadly obovate, with obvious ridges on both sides. The top is wide, round, truncated or slightly concave. There are often convex and blunt points in the center, and shallow and irregular resin grooves on the surface.
