[plant morphology] rose
Evergreen erect shrub. Branches cylindrical, with triangular hooked prickles. Leaflets 3-5, sparse 7; leaflets have petioles with glandular hairs and spines on the petioles; leaflets broadly ovate to ovate oblong, 2-7 cm long and 1-4 cm wide, apex acuminate or acute, base broadly cuneate or rounded, margin serrate; petioles base stipules, margin glandular hairs. Flower usually several clusters, sparse single, red or rose, double petals; involucre 2, lanceolate, apex long tail, surface hairy, edge glandular hair; calyx 5, downward rolled, with long tail sharp head, often pinnately split, smooth outside, inner surface densely covered with white wool; petals obovate, apex round, veins obvious, imbricate arrangement; stamens mostly, inserted in calyx tube On marginal disk; pistils numerous, enclosed at the bottom of the pot shaped receptacle, ovary hairy. Fruit ovate or gyroscopic. The flowering period is from May to September.
Born on hillside or roadside. It is widely cultivated in all parts of China.

[collection] semi open flowers were harvested in summer and autumn and dried in the air or by low fire.
[medicinal material] the dried flowers are round in shape with scattered petals. Flowers about 1.5-2 cm in size, purple or pink. Most of the petals are oblong, textured, with yellow stamens in the center and green calyx. The apex is split into 5 pieces, and the lower end has an expanded round receptacle. Brittle, easy to break. It has a light and bitter taste. It is better to have purplish red, semi open flower buds, no petals and delicate smell.
It is produced in most parts of the country.
