Plant morphology
Annual herbs, 20-40 cm high, all glabrous and smooth. Stem erect, cylindrical, branched, surface pink green. The leaves are elliptic, obovate or lanceolate, 2.5-5 cm long and 1-2 cm wide, apex pointed, base sagittate, margin with sparse shallow teeth or coarse teeth, two flour green, midrib raised on the back, lateral veins not obvious. Raceme axillary and terminal, 10-20 cm long: calyx 4-piece, ovate, 2-2.5 mm long, 1.5 mm wide, green, margin white membranous; petals 4-piece, crisscross, obovate, 3.5 mm long, 1 mm wide, apex obtuse, base gradually narrow, white; stamens 6,4-strong, anthers ovate, dorsal, 2-locular, longitudinal, filaments stout; pistils 1, ovary ovoid But flat, apex slightly concave, green, 2-locular. The short pod is flat, oval, 8-13 mm long and 6-10 mm wide, with broad wings. The apex is deeply split, yellowish when ripe, and splits downward along the central tip. Seeds small, ovoid and flat. The flowering period is from April to July. The fruit period is from May to August.
Born on hillside, grassland, roadside or field. It is distributed in most areas of China.

[medicinal material] the dried whole grass with fruit has cylindrical stem, grayish yellow surface, crisp quality, easy to break, and white loose pith in the center. Most of the leaves are broken. It has racemose inflorescence at the top, oblate and winged fruit.
