[plant morphology] Polygonatum odoratum

Perennial herbs, 40-65 cm high. Underground rhizome transverse, yellow white, 0.5-1.3 cm in diameter, dense with many fine fibrous roots. Stem simple, oblique from one side, smooth, glabrous, angulate. The leaves are slightly leathery, elliptic or narrowly elliptic, rarely oblong, 6-12 cm long, 3-6 cm wide, apex obtuse or acute, base cuneate, entire, green above, pale pink below, veins raised. Flowers axillary, pedicel 1-1.4cm long, with 1-2 flowers; perianth tubular, 1.4cm-1.8cm long, white, apex 6-lobed, lobes ovate, broadly ovate, green; stamen 6, inserted in the center of perianth, filaments flat, anthers narrow oblong, yellow; ovary superior, with slender style, stigma head. Berry globose, 4-7 mm in diameter, purple black when heated. The flowering period is from April to May. The fruit period is from August to September.

Born in the mountain forest or stone gap, like wet place. It is distributed and cultivated in most parts of China.
