Erect shrub, nearly bald, 1-4 m high. Flowers white and pink, ca. 1 cm in diameter, terminal, slightly dense corymb or panicle, ca. 5 cm long; bracts and bracteoles membranous, narrowly lanceolate, long pointed; calyx tube glabrous or tomentose, glabrous when bearing, lobes 5, lanceolate, 6-8 mm long; petals 5, ca. as long as sepals: stamens 15-20; ovary inferior, 2-locular. Fruit globose, unequal in size, usually about 6 mm in diameter, apical crown with base of calyx limb forming a ring. The flowering period is spring and summer. The fruit period is from October to November.
Born in the mountain forest in the bush near the ring stream. It is distributed in Anhui, Zhejiang, Jiangxi, Hunan, Guizhou, Yunnan, Fujian, Guangdong, Guangxi and Taiwan.
