Perennial herbs. Roots spindle shaped, dark brown, with many fibrous roots. Leaves alternate, 2-3-compound; leaflets rhomboid obovate or obliquely obovate, margin crenate. Cyme terminal, with 2-5 flowers; rachis pilose, base with leaflike involucre, above middle with linear involucre. Flowers purple, large and beautiful; sepals 5, radially symmetric, elliptic, with petals of the same color or different color, shorter than the distance; petals 5, petals short and broad, extending forward, base has a backward extension, hollow and curved distance; stamens many, internal degradation; pistils 5, separated, ovules many. Five, upright.
