[plant morphology] Mei (Book of songs), also known as Chunmei (materia medica renewed).

Deciduous small trees, up to 10 meters high. Bark light gray or light green, many branched. The leaf blade is ovate to oblong ovate, 4-9 cm long, 2.4-4 cm wide, apex long, tail pointed, base broad cuneate, margin with sharp serrate, with yellowish brown hairs along the vein back. Flowers solitary or 2-flowered, white or pink, fragrant, usually first leaves open, with short pedicels; bracts scalelike, brown; calyx tube campanulate, lobes 5, sepals connate with receptacle; petals single or double, usually 5-flowered, broadly obovate, stamens numerous, at margin of receptacle; pistil 1, ovary densely hairy, style slender, curved. The drupe is spherical, about 2-3 cm in diameter, with a shallow groove on one side, a coat, green, yellow when ripe, hard and grooved nucleus. The flowering period is from January to February. The fruiting period is May.

It is cultivated all over the country.
