Herbaceous perennial, 20-30 cm high, pubescent throughout. The fibrous roots are long, conical and purple. The leaves are basal or cauline, with long petioles, 3-5 palmately divided, 3-5 cm in diameter, and pinnately stipules. 1-2 flowers on the top of stem, red, about 1.5 cm in diameter. Capsule long beak shape, mature from the base of the upward roll and crack, the seeds pop up and hang on the style. It blooms in summer.
