[plant morphology] kohlrabi

Herbs biennial, 30-80 cm high, with fleshy conical roots. Stem erect, longitudinally striated, smooth or with white filiform hairs. Basal leaves petiolate, oblanceolate elliptic, 7-21 cm long, pinnately divided, apex lobes larger, triangular, sometimes 3-lobed, 7-8 pairs of bilateral lobes, oblong oblanceolate, with white filiform hairs below; middle leaves elliptic, apex acuminate, pinnately divided, sessile; upper leaves linear lanceolate to linear. Inflorescence numerous, involucre spherical, 12-14 mm long, 18-22 mm wide; bracts 5-8 layers, outer bracts ovate, middle bracts elliptic, inner bracts linear lanceolate, each layer bracts dorsal tip with a purple red chicken coronoid. Tubular flowers are purplish red, 13-14 mm long. Achene elliptic, 2. 5 mm long, longitudinally ribbed, corolla white, 2-row. The flowering period is from May to June.

Born in roadside wasteland or beside a pond. It is widely distributed in China.
