[plant morphology] Gossypium hirsutum

Herbs perennial, up to 60 cm tall. Stems, petioles and flower stalks are white, with many bristles on them. Stem erect, forked branched. The basal leaves are clustered and have long stalks; the leaves are round or slightly irregular pentagonal, 4-5-lobed, and the edges are shallow divided, with round teeth; the leaf base is heart-shaped or auricular, green on the top, with sparse hairs, gray white on the bottom, densely distributed along the veins, palmate on the main veins; the stem leaves are opposite, the petioles are short, and the leaves are smaller than the basal leaves. The flower is single at the branch bifurcation, and the flower at the top of the branch is usually clustered with 2-4 flowers; there are leaflike bracts under the petiole, which are the same as the stem leaves, but smaller; the petiole is slender, the flower bud is drooping, and it is erect when opening; the perianth is 5, white or light red, with dense filamentous white hairs on the outside and glabrous on the inside; the stamens are numerous; the pistils are conical or ovate, with white hairs all over except the stigma, and the stigma is rectangular, inclined and glabrous . Achenes numerous, globose, densely white hairy. The flowering period is from May to June.

Born in the wet forest and by the stream. It is distributed in Henan, Gansu, Shaanxi, Hunan, Sichuan, Yunnan, Guizhou and other places.

[clinical application] treatment of biliary ascariasis

Take the stem and leaf of wild cotton to make 100% concentrated decoction, take it twice a day, 30-40 ml each time. 39 cases were treated, except 1 case was invalid, the other 38 cases were relieved in 1 day and disappeared in 2-3 days. In practice, it was observed that the non flowering stems and leaves had good antispasmodic and analgesic effects, and the flowering whole grass had good insect expelling effect; the longer the decocting time was, the better the curative effect was. Generally more than 10 hours is appropriate.
