[plant morphology] Kiwifruit
Liana. Young branches and petioles densely covered with brown hairs or prickles; old branches reddish brown, smooth, glabrous; pith large, white, flaky. The leaves are alternate, the vegetative branches are broad ovoid to elliptic, the apex is very short, acuminate to cusp; the flower branches are nearly round, 6-17 cm long, 5-13 cm wide, the apex is short cusp, round or truncate, the base is round to heart-shaped, the edge is ciliate, the upper part is often only covered with sparse hairs on the veins, the lower part is gray white, densely covered with stellate villi; the petiole is 3-7.5 cm long. The flowers are heterozygous, usually 3-6 in axillary cymes, rarely solitary, milky white at first, then orange yellow, fragrant; sepals 5, covered with yellow villi; petals 5, apex concave, smooth, glabrous; stamens many, filament length varies; ovary superior, style filiform, most. The berry is ovoid or subglobose, densely brownish yellow with long bristles and yellowish green peel. Seeds small, mostly black. The flowering period is from April to June. The fruit period is from August to October.
Growing on hillsides, forest margins or shrubs. It is distributed in Henan, Jiangsu, Anhui, Zhejiang, Hunan, Hubei, Shaanxi, Sichuan, Gansu, Yunnan, Guizhou, Fujian, Guangdong and Guangxi.

It also contains ACTINIDINE.
The content of ascorbic acid in the immature fruit of Actinidia arguta was 461-521 mg%, and that in the mature fruit was 532-930 mg%.
