Duck foot bark

[plant morphology] Eupatorium odoratum, also known as Yajiao tree (essential preparation of raw herbs), Yajiao tree (Lingnan medicine collection record), duck mother tree, duck mother claw, male and female tree, umbrella support tree, wuzhitong, Yazhang Chai.
Trees or shrubs, 2-15m high. The leaves are palmately compound, 5-9 leaflets, leathery, elliptic or oblong ovate, 7-17 cm long and 3-6 cm wide, almost bald, apex acute, base acute to obtuse, entire; petiole 8-25 cm long, petiole 2-5 cm long; stipules semicircular. Flowers small, white, fragrant, umbel shaped; calyx hairy or glabrous, margin with 5-6 fine teeth; petals 5, fleshy, 2-3 mm long; stamens 5; pistils 1, ovary 5-locular, flowers short, less than 1 mm long. Drupe globose, 3-4 mm in diameter. It blooms in winter.
Growing in broad-leaved forest or sunny hillside. It is distributed in Guangdong, Guangxi, Yunnan, Guizhou, Fujian, Zhejiang and Taiwan.

[medicinal materials] the dried bark is oblong and flaky, slightly curved inward, 3-5.5cm long, 2.5-3.5cm wide and 0.2-0.3cm thick. It is dark gray on the outside, with no obvious transverse pores, and gray brown and smooth on the inside. The cork is easy to fall off because of its loose texture. Sometimes, the piece of endothelium can be seen. The cross section is strong fibrous and can be peeled off layer by layer. The air is slightly fragrant.
It is produced in Guangxi and Guangdong.
