Annual herb, whole plant hairy. The stem is developed from the root, ascending, thick short or slender, with scattered and repeated branches, leaves opposite, ovate, apex obtuse, base round, subcordate or halberd shaped, margin serrate, petiole very short. Flowers small, terminal or axillary, arranged in short racemes; corolla radial, purplish red, corolla tube very short, petals 4-5. Capsule small, broadly obcordate, shorter than persistent calyx.

It is cool in nature, bitter and pungent in taste.
