[plant morphology] dogbane vine
Herbs perennial, hairy throughout. The stem is more branched, ascending or prostrate, 1-2m long. Leaves opposite, ovate lanceolate or oblong, entire; shortly stipitate. Flowers bisexual, 2-3 clustered or solitary on forks of branches, slightly pendulous; calyx broad campanulate, 5-toothed, 10 veined; petals 5, white, apex concave, wing base with scales 2; stamens 10; disk extended into short stalks; ovary. The ovules are mostly: Style 3. The fruit is berrylike, globose, black when heated, and finally irregularly dehiscent. Seeds reniform, glossy. The flowering period is summer and autumn.
It is found in forest, shrub, wetland or riverside. It is distributed in southwest, Taiwan and northeast of China.
