[plant morphology] Ailanthus altissima, also known as Gougu, Ganggu, CIGE and Maoer.
Shrubs or small trees, up to 6 m high. Leaves elliptic or elliptic ovate, 2-6 cm long, apex needlelike, base cuneate, margin with 1-4 pairs of spiny teeth, rarely entire, dark green above, glossy below, yellow green below, petiole 8-12 mm long. Sepals 2-flowered, 2-flowered, 3-flowered; stigma 2-flowered, 3-flowered, 3-lobed; stigma 2-flowered, 3-lobed; ovary 4-lobed. Drupe ovate, about 1.5 cm long, blue black. The flowering period is from June to July.
It is distributed all over China.

Functions and indications: tonifying liver and kidney, strengthening waist and knee. External use for carbuncle, rash and swelling; internal use for pertussis.
[usage and dosage] oral administration: decoct soup, 1.5-3 yuan; or soak in wine.
