[plant morphology] cactus

Shrub, 1-3 m high. The lower part of the stem is slightly woody, nearly cylindrical, the upper part is fleshy, flat, green, with nodes; each node is ovate to oblong, 15-30 cm long, bright, scattered with many tumors, and each small tumor is densely covered with yellowish brown curly hairs, which are favorable for spines. The mesophyll is small, lanceolate, apex pointed, purplish red, base green, born under the thorn bundle of each tumor, falling early. Flowers yellow, 7-8 cm in diameter, solitary or several clustered at the top edge of flattened stem; stamens numerous, arranged in several rounds, anthers 2-locular; pistil 1, style white, cylindrical, usually hollow, stigma 6-lobed. Berry, fleshy, ovoid, 5-7 cm long, purplish red, hirsute; seeds numerous.

Wild or cultivated. It is distributed in Yunnan, Sichuan, Guizhou, Guangdong, Guangxi, Fujian and other places.

Green cactus is also used as medicine.

The flowers (Anthurium andraeanum) and fruits (Anthurium andraeanum) of the above plants, as well as the pulp and juice condensate (Hibiscus emblica) of the fleshy stems, are also used for medicine. Please refer to the special section for details.
