Woad

[plant morphology] green vegetables
Herbs annual or biennial, all glabrous. The basal leaves are strong and bright, obovate or broad obovate, 30-60 cm long, entire or with indistinct obtuse teeth, and the base gradually narrows into a broad stalk; the base of stem leaf is ear shaped and embracing. Flowers pale yellow, ca. 9 mm long, clustered at the top of raceme, and corolla covered with unopened flower buds; sepals 4. Petals 4, crisscross; stamens usually 6, 4-strong; ovary superior, stigma capitate. The pod is slender, 3-7 cm long and 3-4 mm thick, with a beak 8-12 mm long. It blooms in spring.
It is widely cultivated all over the country.
