Herbs perennial, 30-60 cm high, with fine hairs. The lower part of the stem is creeping, with fibrous roots on the nodes, and the upper part is erect and slightly longitudinally grooved. Leaves opposite; ovate oblong or lanceolate, 1.5-3 cm long, margin serrate, apex short pointed, base rounded; petiole short or nearly sessile and slightly clasping. Flowers axillary, sessile; calyx tube no longer than ovary, calyx teeth 4, lanceolate; petals 4, lavender, obovate, apex depressed, margin lobed; stamens 8, 4 shorter; upper part of style stick like, stigma 4, ovary lower, slender, 4-locular, with fine hairs on it, shape like pedicel. Capsule is narrow and long, about 3-5 cm, 4-ribbed, sparsely short hairy, dehiscent from apical chamber back into 4-valved, reflexed. The seeds are small, oblong, with brownish yellow hairs. The flowering period is August.
Born in wetlands or near water. It is distributed in Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Jiangxi, Hubei, Guizhou, Yunnan and other places.
