[plant morphology] Myrica rubra
Perennial herb, 50-90cm high, covered with bristles. The main root is slightly massive, with branched roots and fine fibrous roots. The basal leaves are large, tufted, pinnately divided or nearly pinnately compound; the apical leaves are large, rhomboid ovate to round, 5-10 cm long, 3-10 cm wide, 3-lobed or notched, apex slightly pointed, margin dentate, both sides sparsely setose; lateral leaves are small, 1-3 pairs, broadly ovate; cauline leaves are 3-5 pieces, ovate, 3-lobed or pinnately divided; stipules ovate, notched. Flowers solitary on the top or upper part of the stem, yellow; sepals broadly lanceolate or ovate lanceolate, 5-7.5 mm long; stamens and pistils numerous. Aggregate fruit globose, ca. 1. 5 cm in diam., persistent style, apex with long uncinate spines. It blooms in summer. The fruit period is autumn.
It grows on the edge of coniferous forest, mixed coniferous and broad-leaved forest, mountain road, hillside, slightly wetland, mixed grassland and house. It is distributed in Northeast, North China, northwest, southwest, Henan, Shandong, Hunan, Jiangxi, Hubei and other places.
