Plant morphology in the south of the Yangtze River
Annual shrubs or semi shrubby herbs, 1-2m high. Stem erect, cylindrical, lower part lignified, upper part branched. It has double pinnate compound leaves, alternate; petiole 3-5 cm long, with a gland near the base; stipules ovate lanceolate; leaflets 3-5 pairs, the lowest pair the smallest; leaflets ovate or ovate lanceolate, 2-6 cm long, 1-2 cm wide, apex pointed or acuminate, base nearly round, slightly oblique, fully covered, margin villous, petioles very short, densely covered with villous. Corymbose raceme axillary or terminal, pedicel sparsely pubescent; bracts ovate, caducous; calyx 5; petals 5, yellow, obovate or elliptic, apex rounded or slightly concave, base with short claws; stamens 10, upper 3 staminodes; ovary linear and flat, covered with white long hair, style filiform, inflected, stigma truncate. Pods flat, linear, septate, light brown, thinly hairy. Seeds ovate and slightly pointed at one end, flattened, subcentrally retuse. The flowering period is from August to September. The fruiting period is October.
It grows on the hillside or riverside of sandy soil and is widely cultivated. Distributed in Hebei, Shandong, Jiangsu, Anhui, Zhejiang, Fujian, Taiwan, Guangdong, Guangxi, Yunnan and other places.

[collection] the stems and leaves were harvested and dried in August.
[chemical constituents] the leaves contain two anthrone glucosides. The root contains 1,8-dihydroxyanthraquinone, α - hydroxyanthraquinone, emodin, quercetin and mixed diacetylene synthesized from emodin methyl ether and chrysophanol. The root contains chrysophanol and so on.
[pharmacological action] the volatile oil contained in leaves, roots and seeds has inhibitory effect on a variety of bacteria, and it has also been reported that it has no antibacterial effect. The water extract can inhibit some fungi. The water decoction of leaves and stems and the decoction precipitated by alcohol can excite the ileum of guinea pigs and the uterus of rats, and reduce the blood pressure of dogs. The former can slightly excite the isolated rabbit heart, while the latter can significantly reduce the perfusion flow of hind limbs of rats. African folk used to treat snake bite, use its root to treat edema, or as laxative and antipyretic.

[clinical application] 1
Mash the fresh leaves for external application and fry with 1-2 liang of whole grass or 0.5-1 liang of seeds. 2 cases of mastitis, 1 case of cellulitis, 1 case of folliculitis, 2 cases of nasal ulcer were cured.
② Treatment of intractable headache
Take 1 liang of wangjiangnan leaves and half a jin of lean pork. Add appropriate amount of salt, decoction, 1 dose daily. 18 cases of headache due to hyperactivity of liver Yang were treated, 15 cases were cured in the near future; 14 cases of headache due to kidney deficiency, 12 cases were cured in the near future; 10 cases of migraine, 9 cases were cured in the near future. The cured cases were followed up for more than half a year without recurrence.
