[plant morphology] Rhamnus rotundifolia
Deciduous shrub, up to 2 m high. The branches are grayish brown, with many branches. The branchlets are slender, with white pubescence and sharp spines at the ends. Leaves alternate or nearly opposite, papery, obovate or suborbicular, 2-4 cm long and 1-2.5 cm wide, apex acute to acuminate, base broadly cuneate, margin obtuse serrate, green above and light green below, with short Tricholoma on both sides, 3-5 pairs of main veins and lateral veins protruding below, with dense Tricholoma on veins; petiole 0.3-1 cm long, with dense Tricholoma and shallow furrow. Florets in leaf axils, cymes; petals and stamens in the edge of disk; ovary superior, style 2-lobed. The fruit is nearly spherical. Seeds oblate, black: glossy, with yellowish brown oblique groove at the base. The flowering period is spring and summer.
Wild in the hillside jungle. It is distributed in Northeast China and the lower reaches of the Yangtze River.
