[plant morphology] 1
Annual parasitic herbs. The stem is fine, soft, linear, left-handed, multi branched, yellow, with haustoria everywhere, invading the host tissue. There are no green leaves, but triangular ovate scaly leaves. Flowers white, clustered; pedicels absent or very short; bracts, bracts scaly, ovoid: calyx cup-shaped, ca. 2 mm long, apex 5-lobed, lobes ovate or elliptic; corolla short campanulate, 2-3 mm long, 5-lobed, lobes triangular; stamens 5, anthers long ovate, filaments few, each stamen under a scale, oblong, edge seam shaped; pistils short, ovary 2-locular, each Ovary with 2 ovules, style 2, extention, stigma capitate. Capsule oblate, about 3 mm long, brown, with persistent style; seeds 2-4, ovoid or oblate, 3-5 mm long, yellowish brown. The flowering period is from July to September. The fruit period is from August to October.
It grows on the edge of fields, wasteland and shrubs. Parasitic on herbs, especially Leguminosae, Compositae, Chenopodiaceae. It is distributed in most parts of the country.

The shape is similar to the above species, but the stem is thick, slightly fleshy, yellowish green or orange red. Spike, corolla orange red, bell shaped, style simple, stigma 2-lobed.
It is distributed in most parts of the country.

[medicinal material] the dry stems are mostly twined into clusters, brown yellow, soft and thin, less than 1 mm thick. The leaves degenerate into scales and fall off. Flowers clustered at stem nodes and spherical. With round or oblate fruit, brown yellow. It tastes bitter. It is better to be dry, yellow brown and without inclusion.
It is mainly produced in Guangdong, Sichuan and other places.

[pharmacological action] the fresh water alcohol extract of cuscutareflexa has relaxation effect on isolated small intestine of guinea pigs and rabbits, but the effect disappears after 5 days. After 5 days, the ethanol water extract of the old herb had cholinergic effect (ileum of guinea pig and rabbit, rectus abdominis of frog and small intestine and blood pressure of dog), which could be blocked by atropine. However, this effect was different from that of acetylcholine: its spasmogenic effect on uterus of guinea pig and rabbit could not be blocked by atropine, but it had no effect on uterus of rat, The extract has obvious cardiotonic effect.
