[synonym] mussel flower (flora of Guangzhou), water chestnut flower and red mussel orchid (Handbook of commonly used Chinese herbal medicine of Guangzhou Army).
[source] it is the bract bearing inflorescence of Eupatorium purpureum. For the plant morphology, please refer to "benglan leaf".
[collection] harvest in summer and dry in the sun, or steam for 10 minutes before drying.
[medicinal materials] the dried inflorescences are all boat shaped or fan-shaped, about 2 cm high and 5-6 cm long. The remaining peduncle is about 5-10 mm long. Bracts 2, mussel shaped, brown, papery, apex beak pointed, ca. 3 cm long, with veins arranged radially from base. There are many flowers in the bracts, usually oval buds; the petiole is slender, and there are membranous bracts at the base of the petiole, which are tea brown, and some have capsule. The quality is slightly flexible. It is slightly fragrant and tasteless. It is better to be dry and flowers are not open.
It is produced in Guangxi and Guangdong.
