Herbs annual or biennial. The stem is 25-90 cm high. Stems slightly tetragonal, glabrous or tender, pubescent. Flowers sessile, 3-6 or more, clustered leaf axils; bracts ovate or elliptic, 6-8 mm long, bracteoles about half of calyx; calyx about 8 mm long, lobes 5, linear lanceolate, coarsely hairy; corolla light blue or whitish, about 12 mm long, upper part of corolla tube enlarged, 2-lipped, bald, 4-lobed, upper 1-lobed; apex pointed, lower 3-lobed, apex rounded; stamens 4, paired, 2-lobed Pistil 1, style linear, stigma 2-lobed; ovary superior, 2-locular. Capsule oblong, 2-striated, 10 mm long, 3 mm wide, brown, 2-valved at maturity. Seeds numerous, oblate, up to 1 mm, light tan. The flowering period is from July to August.
It grows in the stream side, valley, open forest and grass in the semi humid place. It is distributed all over the south of China.
