Shrub, 1-2m high. Branchlets gray or brown pubescent. Leaves alternate, long elliptic or elliptic, 3-5 cm long, 2 cm wide, pointed or obtuse, base broadly cuneate, olive green or pink green above, slightly gray below, veins densely hairy, petiole 1-2 mm long. Flowers small, unisexual, monoecious or dioecious, apetalous, 1 to several clustered leaf axils, often drooping; male flowers in axils of lower leaves, female flowers and male flowers in axils of proximal leaves, or pure female flowers: sepals 6, arranged in inner and outer rings: stamens 3; ovary of female flowers usually 5-locular, style connate. Capsule oblate, 12-16 mm in diameter, top concave, outside longitudinal groove. The seeds are yellow and red. The flowering period is from June to September. The fruit period is from July to October.

It grows in the shrub on the hillside. Distributed in Fujian, Guangdong, Guangxi, Guizhou, Sichuan, Hubei, Jiangxi, Zhejiang, Jiangsu, Anhui, Shaanxi and other places.
