[plant morphology] Cassia obtusifolia

Annual herb, 30-60 cm high, hairy. Double pinnate compound leaves, alternate, 5-10 cm long, 8-35 pairs of leaflets; leaflets linear oblong, 5-9 mm long, both ends slightly oblique, apex short pointed; stipules 1 pair, lanceolate, apex subulate, persistent. Flowers yellow, axillary, 1-2; pedicels short, 5-10 mm long; bracts 1 pair, linear lanceolate; sepals 5-lobed, lobes lanceolate or broadly lanceolate, surface covered with fine hairs; petals 5, obovate, 4-7 mm long; stamens 4; pistils 1, pods flat, oblong linear, 3-5 cm long, densely covered with grayish yellow hairs, with 6-12 seeds. Seeds flat, rhomboid, light yellowish brown, ca. 3 mm. The flowering period is from July to August. The fruit period is from August to September.

Born on the edge of forest, grass, roadside. Distributed in Northeast, Hebei, Shandong, Zhejiang, Jiangxi, Sichuan, Guizhou and other places.

[herbal medicine] it is a dry whole grass, with round stems and branches, brownish yellow, grayish black at the base, longitudinal lines and verrucous pores on the surface, yellowish white, hard and easy to break, white cross-section, and hollow bubbles. The leaves are mostly curly, or falling off, brownish green or grayish green; brittle and fragile. The remaining pods are brown. The air is weak and the taste is light.
